March

Happy Spring!  Hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather.  We are very busy in the computer lab. Kindergarten-2nd grade are working on creating a Google Doc, naming it, and changing font, size and color.  They also learned how to insert a table.  Third graders were busy writing book reviews and creating QR codes.  They spent a class period scanning the QR codes with ipads and reading the book reviews their friends wrote.  Fourth graders and fifth graders have been reading current events and answering comprehension questions.  Finally, the 6th graders are working on a president's report.  The final product will be an online timeline.

I'm looking forward to spring break.  It will be nice to relax for a bit.  The kids will all be starting new projects once we return.

October

It is hard to believe that we are finished with the 1st quarter.  The computer lab is buzzing with lots of activity.

We concentrated on keyboarding during the month of September.  I encourage the kids to continue this at home-there are several sites the kids can visit on the "Links for Everybody" page of my blog.  This skill will pay off big time when your kids begin typing research papers.

Third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders will be focusing on different ways to present information during the month of October.  We will look at Google Presentations, as well as several others.  The younger kiddos will be learning how to log in to Study Island as well as their email accounts.  We will practice first on paper and then move on to the computers.

October 21st-25th in National Digital Citizenship Week.  We will spend the week focusing on activities that promote good citizenship online.

Hope you are enjoying the fall weather!

Welcome

Welcome to Computers at Sonoran Sky! Our lab is made up of 34 Chromebooks. Our computer lab is incorporated into our Special Areas schedule. Students in grades kindergarten through 6th grade come to Computers every week, sometimes twice a week.
One of my goals is to work on keyboarding this year, especially with the older kids.   I think it is extremely important for our kids to learn how to type properly.  We will also explore different ways to present information.  We will also talk about the importance of staying safe while online.

Here's to a great year!!
